All permit applications can be found under Forms & Permits on the home page. All permit applications have changed. Please make sure you are using the updated form(s).
Please note that some building permit applications may require additional information as required in the Building Appendices. These forms are also available under Form & Permits. Please call (989) 588-6914 ext. 230 or email surreybuildingdept@gmail.com if you have any questions.
We have two information sheets available; Fee Schedule (updated April 9, 2024) and Inspection Lists.
Please note, the building permit fee schedule does not include the $50 application fee.
The Township Board approved changes to existing fees as follows:
Normal Business Hours are Monday through Thursday 9am-12pm and 1pm-5pm EST.
Mechanical and plumbing inspections are done on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
Electrical inspections are typically Thursdays or Fridays; exceptions can be made upon reasonable request.
Offices are closed for Federal Holidays. All days that the office is closed can be found on the calendar.
All well and septic permits/inspections are handled by the Clare County Health Department.

**IMPORTANT**
If your property is located within the Village of Farwell, zoning permits are handled by the Village, and all other permits must go through Clare County.
ALL INSPECTION REQUESTS MUST GO THROUGH THE OFFICE.

- Zoning Permits - $50.00 each
- Inspections (building / electrical / mechanical / plumbing) - $75.00 each
- Plan Review (building / electrical / mechanical / plumbing) - $60.00 / hour
